Tips for Decorating Your Teen's Room
Teen rooms don't necessarily have to be a challenge to decorate. The most important thing to remember when decorating or redecorating a teen room is to keep an open mind and listen to your teen regarding their "special" space. They have their own likes and dislikes and, in most cases, desire a room that reflects their own personality. Sometimes it's hard for parents to accept that their decorating ideas just don't match their teenager's. You must also consider what end of the teenage scale your child is on. Chances are a teen's likes and dislikes will change considerably between the ages of 13 and 17. Therefore, tread lightly with fads and trends that may be here today and gone tomorrow. Put a limit on spending items that may be trendy but too expensive. Stay focused on the core elements of the room. Use accessories to enhance but not overpower. Update your teen's furniture with a coat of paint or other decorative touches. Turn a small table into a cool make-up vanity by painting it to match the room decor. If your teen likes deep colors for the wall, accent the room with a few bright accessories to bring a sense of warmth. Use colorful bed linens to bring the elements together. Purchase extra sheets to make matching curtains or lamp shades. If you're looking for a little height and drama, try vertical stripes in vibrant colors.
